The renewable energy industry in Pakistan was introduced in 2004 however it took almost a decade for the people to accept solar power generation as a reliable source of energy with substantial return on investment. In September 2015 the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) issued net-metering regulations in Pakistan that allowed Distribution Companies to acquire excess power produced by the end-users (e.g. by solar or wind power production) and net them off against the power consumed from the grid.
EBR Energy was one of the first renewable companies to be certified with the AEDB for a net-metering license. After the regulation of net-metering in Pakistan, consumers started investing more in Solar Photovoltaic (PV) power generation systems. Despite this, Pakistan currently only produces a meager 1.16% of its electricity through solar power. While only 4% of electricity production is via renewable energy resources.
Even though Pakistan is located in the so-called Sunbelt region, the investment on environmentally unfriendly methods (coal etc.) is more than renewable energy resources. According to a study by the World Bank the solar power potential in Pakistan is estimated as high as 2,900 GigaWatt. For reference: one GigaWatt can light up 110 million LEDs, each LED consumes 9 watt of energy.
In a recent statement Prime Minister Imran Khan pledged that by 2030 Pakistan would produce 60% of its electricity from renewable energy sources. This target requires Pakistan to install around 24,000 MegaWatt of solar and wind power capacity by the year 2030, while Pakistan has just over 1,500 MegaWatt currently.
The country is currently facing significant power outages, affecting industrial and commercial sectors. Industrial and commercial solar panels could be the optimal solution for the loss in businesses. The World Bank Study confirms by 2025 Pakistan needs to increase Variable Renewable Energy(VRE). If Variable Renewable Energy targets are met, up to $5 billion could be saved in potential fuel and other costs.
EBR Energy has worked directly with the government providing solar power solutions in different sectors. There are a lot of initiatives that the government departments are taking in the solar sector throughout Pakistan that promise great potential for further progress. EBR Energy is an approved vendor by the Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB), principally for net-metering enabled grid-tied solar power systems in all four provinces of Pakistan.
EBR Energy was established in 2009 and is a top Leading Company in Solar energy solutions in Pakistan and is devoted to helping the country reach the VRE target. The recent industrial projects installed by EBR ENERGY include industry giants like Interloop Limited, EMCO, Reliance Weaving Mills Limited and many more.
